Spring download server has been down for a day or two, so I’ve opted to try and get Heroku going with Play! instead

Allow the KDE icon to resize when the panel is resized

Allow the KDE icon to resize when the panel is resized

I was trying to resize the panel in KDE, but the application menu icon would start shrinking after a certain point. It turns out you have to change a setting to allow the icon to grow to larger sizes.

QtTest

QT has a test framework that’s pretty useful, http://doc.qt.digia.com/stable/qtestlib-tutorial1.html

Slideshow screensaver has slow transitions on Kubuntu 12.10

I noticed this problem where the transitions of the slideshow screensaver were very slow.  They’d take 5 minutes filling in little boxes to get the next image to come up.

It turns out that I was using the open source noveau drivers–enabling the proprietary nvidia drivers gave me the speed I needed.  However, when I tried to enable it via the “additional drivers” tool, I got an error.  This web page helped get things back in order:  http://dragly.org/2012/05/04/installing-the-nvidia-driver-in-kubuntu-12-04/

Basically, I needed to

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get purge nvidia-current
sudo apt-get install linux-source
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic
sudo apt-get install linux-image
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
jockey-text -e xorg:nvidia_current

Then restart and run nvidia-settings.
